Mei Zen Facial Acupuncture
WHAT IS MEI ZEN FACIAL ACUPUNCTURE?
Mei Zen Facial Acupuncture is unique in the world of facial acupuncture. This is because it is based on the theory of Traditional Chinese medicine which utilizes meridians and acupuncture points on both the face and body, where other protocols focus solely on needling facial lines and wrinkles. A whole-body approach is used to address underlying health concerns and cater each treatment to fit your individualized needs.
Very fine, sterile, single use needles are placed into specific acupuncture points on the face. This causes microtrauma to the area which initiates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. An increase of collagen and elastin causes the skin to tighten and become firmer, and in doing so, relaxes muscles and decreases facial lines and wrinkles. Body points are also used to enhance the treatment, which allows for increased movement and tonification of Blood and Qi.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT
A facial acupuncture appointment will start how all my treatments do. If you are a first-time patient, we will do a full intake with head-to-toe questions followed by a tongue and pulse reading. This helps me paint a big picture of your overall health and lets us address any underlying health concerns you may have. This also allows me to make sure you are a good candidate for Mei Zen.
The treatment will start with cleansing and prepping the skin, followed by needling of the body and face. You will relax with the needles for ~20 minutes. Once the needles are removed, we will finish with a facial massage, gua sha and/or facial cupping.
RESULTS
After one treatment, your face should feel moisturized and glowing.
Results build over time. For lasting results 1-2 treatments a week for 4-5 weeks is recommended. Most patient’s notice a difference after 5-6 treatments.
After the recommended period, we will re-evaluate and likely move to monthly sessions to maintain results.
**It is important to note that results are not immediate like they are with Botox or fillers.
WHO SHOULD NOT GET FACIAL ACUPUNCTURE
Botox and/or fillers
Facial acupuncture may affect the results of Botox or filler. It is best to wait 4-6 months after injections are done before getting facial acupuncture.
Pregnancy
While acupuncture is safe during pregnancy, facial acupuncture is not recommended. This is because your body needs to focus all of its blood and energy into growing a human. Ask me about other ways I can support your pregnancy!
Blood thinning medication
Blood thinning medication increases the risk of bruising. This includes but is not limited to prescribed blood thinners, turmeric, and extra Vitamin E.
